Curriculum vitae

Nicole Kimmelmann studied Business Education and Human Resource Management at FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg from 1999 to 2004. Additionally, she finished an study program in „Methods and Didactics for German as a foreign language“ which was organised by the Goethe-Institute in cooperation with the University of Kassel in 2005. She worked as teacher and trainer in different national and international institutions, offering off-school vocational education and training programs as well as courses to learn German as a second/foreign language. In 2006 she returned to FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg working as a research assistant at the chair of Vocational Education/Training and Human Resource Management, finishing her PhD thesis about the topic of “Cultural Diversity in Vocational Education and Training” successfully in 2009. From 2011 to 2014 she had the position as an assistant professor for Professional Competence Development at the FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg. In 2014 she became a substitute professor at the University of Paderborn, where she was appointed as a full professor for Vocational Education and Training in 2016. Since October 2018 she holds the professorship for Vocational Education and Training at the FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg.

Her areas of research are concentrating on questions connected with Professional Competence Development for Work 4.0, Promotion of German as a second/foreign language in vocational education/training and in professional positions, Resilience in schools and companies, as well as dealing with migration, diversity and inclusion in Vocational Education and Training.
