Prof. Dr. Veronika Grimm, Owner of the Chair of Economic Theory, was appointed by Federal Minister Dr. Katarina Barley to the Advisory Council for Consumer Affairs at the Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection. On the basis of scientific findings and taking into account practical experience, the Advisory Council for Consumer Affairs supports the Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection in shaping consumer policy. The Advisory Council was established in November 2014 by Heiko Maas, Federal Minister of Justice and Consumer Protection. It has an interdisciplinary composition and nine members. The members have special knowledge and experience in consumer issues, in particular in consumer science, consumer policy and consumer protection.

The Advisory Council for Consumer Affairs met on 10 December 2018 for the kick-off meeting of its second appointment period. During the meeting, Federal Minister Katarina Barley and State Secretary Gerd Billen welcomed the newly appointed and reappointed experts and exchanged views on upcoming consumer policy issues. Minister Barley stressed: “The Advisory Council is an important advisory body for the Federal Government’s consumer protection policy. It includes experts from various disciplines who accompany our work independently and critically. With its focus on “Consumers in the digital world” and its report on consumer-oriented scoring, it has recently provided important impetus for the necessary regulation of scoring processes. The experts not only ask the right questions but also provide good answers.”
