The courses offered by the FAU Scientia guest student programme take all the varying interests of people in the (post) professional phase of their life into account.
In addition to participating as a guest student in lectures and seminars offered as part of regular teaching at the University, the programme also offers its own series of lectures and seminars. FAU Scientia thus follows FAU’s mission statement of the concept of lifelong learning and exchanging knowledge across the generations.
What is the difference between guest students and degree students?
Degree students aim to obtain a degree and therefore enrol for one specific degree programme. For this degree, students have to attend a specific number of courses which are set out in the degree programme and examination regulations. In addition, they must also attain a specific number of credits or pass a certain number of partial examinations in the form of oral, practical, and written examinations before they can gain a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or pass the State Examination.
FAU Scientia guest students on the other hand, do not gain a degree and cannot take any examinations. They are therefore free to choose lectures and seminars from the wide range on offer that are suited to their interests and that are open to Scientia guest students. They can either start out by just attending a lecture or can participate in a seminar straight away.
