A great success for FAU: in the current Academic Ranking of World Universities, also known as the Shanghai Ranking, the University is ranked among the top 200 universities in the world for the first time. The Academic Ranking of World Universities has been published on an annual basis by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University since 2003.
In areas of conflict, people lose their limbs every day due to weapons and mines. Prosthetics could help the victims, but even simple models are unaffordable for most sufferers. Researchers at FAU and Fachhochschule Lübeck are working together on a way to develop custom-fit prosthetics with the help of 3D scanning and printing.

In order to study at FAU, refugees are required to learn German. The Association for Promoting Internationalisation at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg is supporting 24 refugees taking part in German language courses with a donation of 7200 euros.
